Wow. What do you plan to do with all of them?

Stop. I've got 40 years experience here. You need a professional to check this out and offer advice. Someone to price out the key items and put a fair price on things. At a estate sale no one will pay top dollar for them. So the point is to make prices good to sell at just a bit lower to market prices. Actually having a estate sale is a good thing if you do not have the time , experience or enthusiasm to sell them online. Plus you may need to split the money up with others. Auction houses may be a good idea. They do the work for you. The problem I see alot is people putting Ebay prices on items and then no one wants to buy them and there stuck with stuff. There is actually a sweet spot you want to sell these at , and that's were you need help. They will correct prices to help (either higher or lower) to help you optimize your profit. The first 3 hours of this sale is critical. It's going to be crazy managing traffic and dealing with people. Plus these are fragile. Keep in mind, trains are nice but there not the hottest collectibles on the market. Alot of collectors are dying out and collections are becoming available. If this was a vintage comic collection with old toys, well then that would be a gold mine. I hope you kept a few mementos to remember fondly about your cool grandfather.

Even paying someone with trade or cash is worth this.
