We get those cicada killers at my work, they're terrifying and will make grown men run for their lives. But they're actually quite skittish and fly away from you.

I have successfully befriended the carpenter bees on my back porch for the past 3 summers. You let them charge at your head the first day and just dodge a little. In about 3 days you can hang out together. They will fly nicely around you while you hang outside. When a new person is introduced to the back porch, if they don’t swat, the bees are nice to them too after the initial head charge. They just wanna show the new comer who’s boss. They are welcome to the wood on my porch. I told the landlord and he didn’t seem too concerned. I also have a similar relationship with the wasps, once we kick it for a while, they respect my space. I can always tell whose a new wasp to my back yard because he’s aggressive.

Edit: yes wasps only live 15 days. Then the new wasps get used to you. I usually only have 4 or 5 at a time. It Prob wouldn’t be so chill if there were more.

last june i got stung by some kind of wasp at my niece's birthday party on my neck, and for the next 2 days my neck felt better than it had in years. It was like the sting totally erased the usual neck pain i have for the duration.
