They will tell you they disagree with every type of "bail out", but for some reason they are only vocally opposed to student loan forgiveness. Its because their orange god uses farm subsidies to buy votes from the farmers in middle America, and thats a-okay to the Trumpsters.

Can i just get a better interest rate without having to privatize my loans?

Let me pay them off in 20 years as opposed to having them paid in 10 years. I got a STEM degree and I'm contributing to society, but I can't save to buy a house :(

My 10 year pay off is 60k, if I changed it to a 20 year pay off the interest would knock me upwards of 115k.

EDIT:

My main point is we should all have the same interest rate no matter what degree path you take. Yes, I am in a STEM related job and I have a good salary to pay my loans, but I am not disrespecting your choice of career. Look at it this way, instead of trying to throw the country intro a massive debt with forgiveness (Yes, I know we can tap the military to pay for this), let's take a small step and change the federal tax rate for student loans - regardless of criteria.

This is a low-impact win (I'm no economist) - but since this is considered Federal, I would except a lower rate.

But I am proposing a flat interest rate for federal loans. I don't have a problem paying them back, and I can - but think past me and look at the college students who don't make a min 100k

As long as colleges are run as for-profit businesses, it is not in our best interest to forgive outstanding debts. The schools have already inflated tuitions because of the easy loan money. Why doesn’t more blame get put on the universities?
