Went to get a 6 pack ran into a friend. His super drunk buddy handed me this and mumbled something about "this can save your life in a tough spot take it man" and something about a breakaway? Didn't want a 4 hour conversation so just said thanks and took it. What is it?

It’s a rigging sling, used in climbing and in aerial acrobatics. It’ll have a breaking strength of something like 5000 lbs. Safely, that’s an active load of 500 lbs. of course, without knowing its history, I wouldn’t trust it to hang a balloon.

It’s a Dyneema sling. Most commonly used for rock climbing. Super strong and light weight. Used for building anchors when climbing
