We had something kinda like this. Some departments are essential and can't close for bad weather, so now we all have to come in, in any weather, and use vacation time if we can't.

I used to work at a place where I argued for years that my job was internet-based and I didn't need to be in the office five days/forty hours a week.

I spent lots of time going back and forth with HR and the CEO's office, with the support of my manger. Finally, the organization instituted a "Work From Home" policy where we could work from remotely one day a week.

The next day our director came in and said: "That policy doesn't apply to our department, I am overriding it. And in fact, no one can work remotely ever again."

Well, as I said when I started this comment "I used to work..."

My partner's company used to let everyone home early (by like 2 hours) on Christmas Eve. A handful of people who'd booked the whole day off complained that they'd taken a whole day as leave. The result? No more going home early for anyone.

It wasn't a new thing, they'd always done it, and most people who booked the whole day knew the deal and didn't care.

Some people are such entitled arseholes they are willing to cut off their nose to spite their face.
