The key to not being detected is to go to the bathroom when you get back, then approach the alpha adult. Say you noticed your eyes are itchy and red, ask if they can see anything stuck on them like an eyelash or a bug. Or something like that, just normalize the situation. Unless you are the kind of person who acts completely different when high, in that case good luck not being obviously under the influence of something.
I don't know if this is a thing only in my friend group or if it's all new smokers, but we all had no idea that you looked any different while high. We would hit my friends dab pen during school and think no one would have any idea. That was until I saw my friend talking to the teacher once with the most red eyes I've ever seen, and the teacher looked at me and we both knew (the teacher was cool, he didn't really care). After that I never hit it ever again during school, no matter how much more fun it made shop class.
Side note: hitting a dab pen for your first time smoking, especially during school, is a very bad idea. After I did that I hid in the bathroom the whole day with horrible anxiety and the world spinning. However, the second time around it was very fun.

Having red eyes is not the problem. The odor is kind of more a problem because it smells stronger to others.
