I guess it's no surprise that Martin picked his own guy. Plus there is SOME reason to vote for him, he was after all arguably the best swordsman in Westeros.
In the end though, Aragorn is from a race blessed by the Valar, FAR more experienced, and probably equally as skilled. For sure, he has faced plenty of strong swordsmen in his life, and Jaime would simply become another faint memory in Strider's mind eventually.
