I lived in an apartment in NY, and the walls were so thin I could here the people snoring in the next apartment. One day, I was down in the Village near the Bowery, and this guy had huge stacks of books for sale. He was selling them $5 a yard. I wound up buying about $300 of books from him and built bookshelves covering the entire connecting wall of the bedroom and filled them with those books. Incredibly good sound insulation, and it made me look smart too.
