The ambulance is staffed by a specialist crew designed to help you get quickly (thanks to the sirens) and safely to the hospital when you need it. You call the same number for them that you do for the fire department or a police car. The idea that any of those would give you a bill to pay is reprehensible.

If an arsonist sets a building on fire, all three are needed. The fire department to put the fire out, the police to arrest the arsonist, and the ambulance to help those injured by the fire. How is it justifiable that any of those would present you with a bill?

Edit: Some people are pointing out that people will call an ambulance for pointless reasons. This is the justification they're giving.

People do that with the police here.

So does the fire department.

The trouble with charging extortionate fees is that it becomes pay to play. Rich people can still afford to call for frivolous reasons but the poor can't for legitimate reasons. It benefits nobody.

It's crazy how deeply conditioned against decent healthcare some Americans are. Like wouldn't it be nice to get an Express lift to a hospital if you're about to die? Or is that too communist?

Reading the Twitter thread this came from, Ben shapiro makes an appearance himself, the argument seems to be: if ambulances are cheap or free, some people will use them when they don't really need them. Ambulances NEED to be super expensive to make sure people don't frivolously use them for no reason.

I swear to God, conservatives would rather a million innocent people die than one single person get something they don't need/deserve.

No system of any kind in the world is free from some manner of exploitation or loss. Spend trillions on a pointless war and that's just fine, spend a few hundred on an ambulance ride for a heart attack that turned out to just be a panic attack, that's the REAL problem with society today.

The fact that these people actually think we believe them when they say they care about abortion is insulting.
