After a quick google, it seems NASA legend Hickam then contacted Naomi and after a more grown up chat, got her the internship back, everyone having adjusted their egos accordingly.

Pretty sure Homer Hickam is the real person Jake Gyllenhaal played in October Sky... one of my favorite movies back in the day
