Fun fact, when they deregulated air travel, they accidentally made it so air ambulances can charge whatever they want. They are not required to adhere to government program reimbursements, reasonable and customary charges or even health plan negotiated discounts. They literally can charge whatever they want and federal law protects them, so your insurer or you have to pay regardless of how ridiculous the charge is.
