Winter is the best time of year to go visit Abraham Lake, because that's when the freezing ice traps methane bubbling up from the bottom of the lake to create these frozen bubbles. Since Abraham Lake is an artificial reservoir, there is a particularly large amount of organic matter on the bottom, which produces the gas when it decays. Abraham Lake isn't alone in this phenomenon, but it's particularly noteworthy since large sections of the lake are kept clear of snow cover by high winds. This is both terrifying and beautiful.

My first date with the love of my life, we met on the shores of Abraham Lake in October. During the first cold snap of the year. We had decided after months of texting to finally meet, to go camping in her favorite place in the world, which so happened to be Abraham Lake.

A snow storm blanketed the area overnight but the sleeping bag was warm with two people in it.

10/10 definitely recommend
