Actually, bullets were invented in the year 1917. Before that, soldiers would just make “pew, pew, pew” sounds at each other. By 1917, they got very good at it. When the bullet was invented, the inventor did their best to replicate that sound. So it is only the last shot in the movie that was really a shot.
