2020 is the year we're expecting to get the PlayStation 5, and if the latest leaked information is to be believed, Sony's next console certainly won't be lacking in graphics performance.
As HotHardware reports, well-known hardware information leaker @Komachi has revealed three engineering samples of the PS5's AMD Oberon APU are currently being tested, known as Gen0, Gen1, and Gen2. The most up-to-date sample is Gen2 and it apparently runs at 2GHz. To put that into perspective, the PS4 Pro GPU runs at 911MHz.

The PS4 and PS4 Pro run on AMD's Radeon GCN GPU microarchitecture, where as the PS5 will run on the successor to that microarchitecture called Radeon DNA (RDNA). According to Twitter user Is a Parrot, if the PS5 GPU does end up running at 2GHz it will equate to 9.2 teraflops of performance on RDNA, or the equivalent of 14 teraflops on GCN. For comparison, the PS4 Pro achieves 4.2 teraflops and the Xbox One X 6 teraflops.
Clearly the PS5 will be (and should be) a huge step up from the last generation of consoles, but how about compared to high-end graphics cards? Comparing to the latest GeForce RTX graphics gives us a good idea of where Sony's next console sits. The GeForce RTX 2070 achieves 7.5 teraflops, the 2070 Super increases that to just over 9 teraflops, and then the RTX 2080 ($699.99 at Amazon) achieves 10.1 teraflops. In other words, the PS5 sits in between the 2070 Super and 2080 in terms of GPU performance based on this leaked information.
Considering a GeForce RTX 2070 Super ($499.00 at NVIDIA) costs around $500 on its own, Sony launching a console with a similar price point and higher GPU performance next year is mighty impressive. It also bodes very well for its future as a 4K gaming device, and we must consider that there may be a Gen3 of the PS5 APU to come that pushes performance even higher. Could it possibly match the RTX 2080?

Every time a new console comes out there are articles like these, but it's misleading in the comparison and eventually a reputable website will explain in detail where the performance is actually going to be, and it's way lower than the hype articles. This gets a 5 yawns out of 10 from me.
