1428 seems a little bit over-deocrated, almost a 19th century revival castle but all in all it's really interesting

also interesting is that this design is especially english, ouside england the motte and bailey design wasn't as widespread as courtyard designs

Wooden castles existed for a long time. MANY more wooden castles existed than the stoney ones we all know of today. Wooden castles rotted, so we can't see them any more. Because of this, we strangely assume that all medieval castles were made of stone when in fact only those few major ones were.
