NASA is already in the process of awarding contracts to American companies to develop a landing system. In NASA's vision the crew will rendezvous with the lander at a permanent command post in lunar orbit, which change its orbital inclination to cover different landing sites. The lander will travel between surface and orbit, allowing it to be reusable - though companies are allowed to propose different solutions.
