My little brother has hearing aids and his teachers used this kind of thing. He said they would always walk out forgetting it was still on and he would hear lots of teacher gossip. So keep that in mind

My mother is a teacher and has had these a for a couple students in the last few years.
Her favorite thing was whispering jokes, to make the deaf kid laugh out loud in the quiet classroom out of no where.
