Growing up, there was a man in my town that was known as the "blue light man." Every year he decorated his property in blue Christmas lights. He had a large house and several large buildings. On the weekends he let people drive through his property and admire his work. He had all kinds of scenes set up, but my favorite was the peace on Earth, with blue doves. At the end he and his wife were dressed up as Santa and Mrs. Clause to hand out candy canes.
Despite this being a rural and almost entirely white area, I don't remember any kid being bothered that they were black. They were a family we could rely on every year to go all out for Christmas, and we enjoyed that.
