Leia's racism was foreshadowed when she referred to Chewie as a "walking carpet" and refused to give him a medal. The ewok massacre in response to chewie stealing the heroic spotlight makes total sense and I was, in fact, expecting it the entire time.
Also her dad killed all those tusken raiders and kids and so she had crazy in her blood.
