MONTREAL -- Quebec director Denis Villeneuve has been named filmmaker of the decade by the Hollywood Critics Association.

He will receive the honour at the association’s ceremony on Jan. 9.

Villeneuve, 52, is best known for directing numerous critically acclaimed films, like Prisoners, Sicario, Arrival and Blade Runner 2049.

Villeneuve’s next projects include directing an adaptation of Jo Nesbø's crime novel, The Son, as well as a revision of the 1965 science fiction novel, Dune.

Villeneuve, a native of Becancour, Quebec, has directed eight films, which have grossed a total of almost $700 million at the box office around the world.

His films have been nominated for 18 Academy Awards, winning three (one for Arrival and two for Blade Runner 2049) and 21 BAFTA awards, also winning three (one for Arrival and two for Blade Runner 2049). Arrival was also nominated for two Golden Globes.

Arrival was so beautifully made.

Blade Runner was a feast for the eyes.

Sicario was just awesome.

Prisoners was one of Hugh Jackmans best performances.

I loved all these movies and only lately discovered he directed all of them. Can’t wait until he gets a much deserved Oscar.

Arrival was hard to adapt.

But he did a very good job.

I'll watch anything he makes without knowing a single thing about it at this point.
