I'm old enough to remember when the Japanese cars first started making inroads in the American market. We laughed at them and anybody stoopid enough to buy one.
Then Datsun's 240, 260, and 280 came along. They were as beautiful as anything Europe was making, twice as reliable, and one tenth the cost.
And Detroit in 1974? Ford Pinto!
It was really hard to laugh at Japanese cars after that.
