Obviously not directed towards people with children

Edit: the number of people who believe children are some kind of unnecessary burden that idiots are too stupid to avoid is incredible. Those parents are raising the kids that will tend to you when you are older.

Responding to the idea of “Pick yourself up by your bootstraps” Watts says, “You are likely to land with a bang on your fanny and end up lower down than you were in the first place”

That plus starvation wages

The inherent problem with this is that it tries to motivate people to do more with their lives than they already are through shame. The fact of the matter is that on the weekends and in the evenings most people already devote some of their time to activities that lead to some matter of self improvement. That might be as complex as learning something new or planning some creative endeavour or as simple as taking care of children, but the fact of the matter is that 99 times out of 100 that won't lead to "building an empire." People want to pursue things that are meaningful to them personally, not profitable for them objectively, and we shouldn't punish people if what brings meaning and purpose to their lives doesn't bring home the bacon. The 40 hour work week is supposed to provide everything some needs to live in basic health and comfort, if it doesn't do that, it needs to be fixed, if it does do that, people should not be shamed for using it that way.

Edit: oh fuck I'm being awarded, that has not happened before thank you.
