Shot my stalker in the chest 5 years ago in self defense. He immediately started harassing me again a few days after being released from parole supervision. : legaladvice

Throwaway because the stalker comments on pretty much every post I make on my main account. I even got flagged for karma manipulation for having a "friend" comment on my post. He's not my friend.

Anyway, 5 years ago I was stalked for six months by a guy I knew less than a month as an actual person. We dated very briefly, I broke things off and things seemed amicable until he started showing up outside my house and demanding I be with him or else.

He had decided that he was a good man and he deserved a chance. He threatened that if he didn't get a chance, he'd kill me or hopefully Id kill myself.

After 6 months of daily threats, 10+ police reports, multiple restraining order attempts, moving, getting rid of all social media, he found me and kicked my door in at midnight. I ended up shooting him, after a lot of games on his part(refusing to come to court, self imposed starvation) he was finally sentenced and went to jail for 5 years.

I guess he was on parole for about 4 months after his release because I immediately started receiving messages and comments from him, he just picked right back up where he left off. I contacted the parole board and they said he was released from supervision a few days before.

I have contacted the police, was approved for a restraining order but of course they haven’t been able to serve it.

They said they can’t prove the messages are from him despite him using his name, posting his pictures and literally commenting my name and talking about the shooting in comment replies. The detective is waiting for a subpoena from reddit to prove it’s him. I am documenting every bit of harassment of course..but I am just...exhausted.

I am so incredibly frustrated with the lack of help available and closed doors there are for people being stalked.

Is there anything else I can do in the mean time?

My ex-husband nearly killed me in a very, very similar circumstance.

I served him with divorce papers and he proceeded to stalk me. Law enforcement would do nothing, aside from tell me to apply from a protective order...which he proceeded to violate in every way he could. He’d sleep in the parking lot of my apartment complex. I’d call the police to report it and they’d refuse to do anything, stating the parking lot was public property and he could be there.

During one incident, around midnight, I was asleep in my bed with my nephew, who I raised. My ex-husband saw two heads in the bed and assumed there was a man in bed with me, because that’s the only reasonable thing to assume. So, he dove through the glass window and landed on top of us. My nephew was not cut or harmed, thank God. I called 911. This idiot actually stayed in my apartment to wait for law enforcement. I thought, “Finally, I have proof that he’s not only crazy, but he’s violated the restraining order.” Nope. When the police arrived, I was informed that I couldn’t prove I didn’t invite him over and if he was taken to jail, I would be going as well, for violating my own restraining order. They also said they would call CPS on me for exposing my nephew to domestic violence. So, he walked away.

A week later, he showed up to my apartment, sexually assaulted me and abducted me at knifepoint. He forced me into my car and attempted to make me drive into the country, so he could kill me. I wouldn’t, so he beat and strangled me as I was driving. He then had me drive back to my apartment, where he swore he was going to kill me. I absolutely believe he intended to, because a tarp, rope, lighter fluid and bleach was recovered from the trunk of his car. I was able to escape. He barricaded himself in my apartment and had a standoff with the police that lasted hours.

He broke my right eye socket, my nose (again), right wrist (again) and my right jaw bone. He destroyed EVERYTHING in my apartment. During the trial, I couldn’t even look at the photos of myself. I lived in terror for months leading up to his trial. Sometimes I still wake up screaming, remembering that car ride.

He was convicted of:

Kidnapping (Aggravated Felony X2)

DV-Strangulation (Aggravated Felony-3rd & Subsequent)

Sexual Assault (Aggravated Felony X2)

Forcible Sodomy (Aggravated Felony X2)

Burglary W/Weapon (Aggravated Felony X3-3rd & Subsequent)

Assault On Law Enforcement (Aggravated Felony X4)

Felony Violation Of Protective Order (Aggravated-3rd & Subsequent)

Destruction of Private Property (Aggravated Felony-3rd & Subsequent)

Felony Motor Vehicle Theft (Aggravated Felony X3-3rd & Subsequent)

Robbery (Aggravated Felony-3rd & Subsequent)

Intent To Kill W/Deadly Weapon (During Commission Felony) (Aggravated Felony X2)

All of the aggravated charges are for previous acts done against me, except for the assaults against law enforcement. After he was arrested, he bonded out and was charged with:

Intimidation Of State’s Witness (Aggravated Felony X2)

Breaking & Entering-Private Dwelling (Aggravated Felony X2)

Felony Violation Of Protective Order (Aggravated-4th & Subsequent)

Destruction of Private Property (Aggravated Felony-4th & Subsequent)

Breaking & Entering-Motorized Vehicle (Aggravated Felony)

These charges occurred because when he bonded out, he broke into my car, shredded my college textbooks and homework and destroyed my laptop. He also shredded a copy of the protective order and left it sitting on my driver’s seat. Three nights later, he broke into my apartment while I was not home. My neighbors, who played football for our college, saw him kick the door in, and called the police, then called me. I was actually about two blocks from my apartment, on my way home. He was armed with a box cutter, butcher knife and a screwdriver. He was taken to jail, where he was finally held without bond, which should have been the case to begin with, because of the “Caitlin Wooten Act” in our state.

He was found guilty of all charges and sentenced to 165 years in prison, with all but 25 of those years to be served consecutively. But he has still found ways to get photos of my daughter, who is not his child, and my nephew, who is 19 now. He has had people send things to me. He is still as dangerous now as he was then.

"What do I do if shooting a guy in the chest doesn't stop him stalking me?"

"Aim higher"

A+ title.

This is horrifying though. I feel awful for LAOP and hope that she gets the help she needs so I don't end up hearing her story on one of my true crime podcasts.
