René Auberjonois, a prolific actor best known for the TV shows “Benson” and “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” has died. He was 79.

His son Remy Auberjonois told The Associated Press he died Sunday at his home in Los Angeles of metastatic lung cancer.

The actor won a Tony on Broadway in 1969’s “Coco” opposite Katharine Hepburn. His first major movie role was as Father Mulcahy in the 1970 film “M.A.S.H.”

In the 1980s, he played Clayton Runnymede Endicott III, a snooty staffer in a governor’s mansion on “Benson.” And in the 1990s, he played the shape-shifting alien Odo on “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.”

This and Aron Eisenberg in the same year. This is so sad. It is the beginning of the end. Odo was absolutely one of the best characters with the most developed and complete arc in all of Star Trek, which wouldn’t mean anything if it hadn’t been brought to life by a fantastic actor. Rene you will be missed by this fan.

My favorite fun fact about Rene Auberjonois, he also voiced (and sang) the character of Crazy Louie in the Little Mermaid. The one who tries to cook Sebastian up. Versatile guy.

Peace and long life.

RIP. His arc on DS9 was my favorite and I don’t think would’ve been possible without his gravitas. He put so much into Odo, and that performance will stand the test of time. Thoughts with his family and friends.

This is truly heartbreaking, he always seemed like a sweet and genuine person
