Whether or not you think Souness is "yer da", he's the bloke yer da listens to. For him to come out and say this is excellent, and its opinions like this coming from people like this that change people's minds. It may not come from just Souness, but with a slow trickle of this opinion from people respected by the type of people who hold homophobic views will have an affect. As daft as it sounds, I genuinely think there are people at home who will think "well Souness doesn't have a problem with it so maybe I'm wrong".

Went to the tweet and clicked "see replies hidden by the author", expecting some horrible comments. Instead, it was just a single tweet saying who the fuck is responsible for the apostrophe in "learnt"?

Graeme Souness was a player in the 70s and 80s, so of course he was in a homophobic, intolerant environment. But he should be commended for what he's said here and openly admitting that he's realised how wrong that was.

Life would be far easier for an openly gay footballer in the Premier League now than it would have been in his era, or even the 90s, but until a player comes out, we won't know how tolerant fans and the media would be. They would get more support from their club and sponsors now, but social media would almost certainly be a nightmare in the few weeks after they came out.
