When my son was four we were looking out the window. We look out on apartment buildings with hundreds of windows in our view.

I said “see those lights? Each one is a window to a house. And in each of those houses are people living, doing different things, isn’t that interesting?”

He looked up at me and said “dad, which window are we in?”

Really put into perspective how his tiny brain worked at that age.

On a particularly rainy day, my mom told 4 year old me that it was “raining cats and dogs”... I ran to the nearby window and was instantly disappointed.

I loved doing this with my niece and nephew when they were little:

“Alright, time to go, hit the bricks.”

“Hit the what?”

“It means move it or lose it.”

“What will we lose?”

“My patience, now hop to, skiddadle, cheese it.”
