See, I have the opposite problem. I want my monsters to have really cool stuff, but then I have to weigh it against the possibility of my players then having that stuff.
As a realism whore a lot of my dungeons are pretty counter to the RPG design. There really isn't "random loot," there's usually a treasure cache somewhere hidden after the boss fight, and with variant encumberance, the party doesn't want to be looting rusty spears anyway.
Although I've always wanted to do a short campaign that's super old school with 6-8 encounters, random loot tables, so on and so forth.
