A school has been criticised after punishing a whole cheerleading squad after a male student said he was distracted by their short skirts.

The student at Timpview High School had “impure” thoughts after seeing the squad in their uniforms, People reports, and so his mother wrote to the school and complained.

After the formal complaint was made, rather than helping the male student to deal with the thoughts, the Utah school’s administrators appear to have punished the whole cheerleading squad.

Administrators told the cheerleading coach at the school, who told the 44-strong cheerleading squad that they should not wear their uniforms on match day.

One cheerleader told Fox 13 that she thought the school was “almost supporting a rape culture”.

Another of the squad told People: “It’s giving this boy power that when he grows up and does something to a girl, he can blame it on her skirt being too short.

“It really made me angry. Why should this boy have control over what we wear?”

But the school district has denied that the squad was told not to wear their uniforms.

A spokesperson for the Provo School District told Fox 13 that was not the case, but People reports that the administration is attempting to “find out exactly what the cheerleaders were told”.

One of the cheerleaders’ parents said: “I was shocked when my daughter came home and told me, ‘We can’t wear our uniforms on game day. They’re giving boys’ dirty thoughts.’

“I want the school to have a meeting with all of the cheerleaders and all of the parents, and I want our girls to walk out of that meeting with their heads held high. This boy’s problem has nothing to do with them.”

Recently, the state of Georgia said that it’s legal to take photographs up a woman’s skirt without their permission.

The images associated with this article are infuriating. The cheerleading outfits they show are 100% not appropriate for high school girls, but guest what? Those are not from the highschoolers! The uniforms the girls are actually wearing are completely appropriate as seen here: https://www.google.com/amp/s/fox13now.com/2016/09/12/timpview-high-cheerleaders-rally-in-defense-of-uniforms-after-complaint/amp/

When I was in middle school, there was a cranky old man teaching social studies. (Probably not as old as I thought at the time). He would stand out in the hallway chatting etc, but if he saw a boy leering at or making obscene gestures at a girl, he would drag that boy out of the hallway, stand him against the wall, and lecture the boy on how he is not to act that way if he wants to be considered a man. If the boy tried "male instinct ", the teacher said that you are a human being and are expected to control that bullshit. If the boy tried "but look how she's dressed " he tell the boy It doesn't matter if she is naked, that is not how you behave. If you had class with him, the lecture continued in class. I don't remember any of the class material, but I am sure a lot of boys learned a lesson on proper male/human behavior.

Not to mention that the school is responsible for what the cheerleader outfits looks like.
