I'm a teacher and it is super therapeutic to write a referral describing the entire incident in complete detail (and with as little emotion as possible). I've also found that just describing what the student did to the parent (once again with as little disgust as possible) to be a super effective tactic.
I had some students (sophomores) who colored a tampon with dark red marker and were tossing it around the classroom while laughing hysterically. I made them pick it up and when I asked whose it was they pointed at some random girl. I called all three of their moms and explained the ENTIRE incident. I got exactly the response that I should have. Sometimes you just have to tell it like it is.

Had a kid in 4th grade write his name in shit on the wall. The investigation wasn’t a long one.
