With all the posts about Mercury this week, I felt it important to show the true scale, because in photos like these Mercury is 36 million miles closer to us than the sun, and therefore larger. This accurately shows everything else in our solar system stacks up against the sun or the other planets. Fun Fact: If shown to scale in distance as well, this image would be 28 MILLION pixels wide versus just 11,167. I tried making one to scale but my computer kept crashing.

Each of these images were taken sometime within the last year using my own equipment. The sun was taken using a special solar telescope, and the rest were taken using either my 10" dobsonian telescope or my 8" SCT. The exception is the Earth, which is actually my digital art of an imaginary planet designed to look like the Earth. Sadly the object I am able to capture in the highest resolution (the moon) is a mere 20 pixels wide in this image. I would have loved to include Pluto, but sadly I am yet to capture it. Hopefully that will change soon.

Consider how massive the sun is in OP's image here.

Now consider how small the Sun is in comparison to UY Scuti, the largest known star.
