"she's about 24"... okay pops, that's all we needed to hear to know how important she is to you. My ex is just like this dad. When we separated he left the state to go live in his parents basement. Our daughter was just 3 years old.
I did everything I could think of to convince him to move back here, but he never did. He left his parents house for both of his subsequent marriages, but never lived in the same state as his daughter again.
I found out later he had told everyone back in our hometown that I told him he'd never see his daughter again, and that I bribed a judge to make it happen. The hundred or so emails I sent him with info on jobs/housing for him here and pleading with him to live closer to his daughter say otherwise. Daughter is 20 now and she hasn't seen him in years.
