I know Sophie at least was originally written by a woman.

Lady Eboshi (Princess Mononoke) and Dola (Castle in the Sky) are two adult female characters not included here who are among my favourites. Thank you Studio Ghibli!

Ugh, and now I'm reminded how recently the creator of Gundam criticized the director of Your Name for creating stories about romance that lack "sexual intimacy." Dude literally said, "stories about a boy and a girl who are always stretching out their hands towards each other, and yet the boy’s hand never reaches the girl’s crotch.”

Never mind the seeming obliviousness that thinks two characters involved in a romantic journey won't someday bone down; it's pretty gross for him to say that a romantic journey is unfulfilling if there isn't at least a little bit of mild sexual assault.
