Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton lost the presidential election three years ago but that hasn’t stopped Republicans from turning her into the ultimate boogeyman. This week, a Republican senator filed a request with the National Archives; asking them to release emails between Clinton and former President Barack Obama.

Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) sent a letter to David Ferriero of the National Archives, asking him to release the emails. In the letter, he said that he previously requested the emails from the DOJ in January of 2018 but that he was told that the Justice Department did not the authority to release the emails.

In his letter, the lawmaker cited a message sent by former FBI agent Peter Strzok, who was removed from Robert Mueller’s team after his partisan text messages became public.

In the text cited by Johnson, Strzok says to FBI Director James Comey that he has emails between Obama and Clinton. He adds, “I hesitate to leave them, please let me know a convenient time to drop them off.”

Johnson requested that the National Archives send him the documents by November 14.

Strzok has been a favorite villain for Republicans and he’s frequently tied to Clinton’s emails.

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) has said on a number of occasions that he’s hoping to probe the Department of Justice to find out more about how they behaved before the 2016 election.

That theme has been ridiculed by Democratic senators like Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) who quipped, “It appears that they are going to work together and coordinate the so-called ‘lock her up’ defense.”

Earlier this week, Clinton appeared on a late-night show where she was asked why she thinks she’s become a right-wing archvillain.

The former Secretary of State said, “The things they say, and now, of course — it’s on steroids with being online — are so ridiculous, beyond any imagination that I could have. And yet they are so persistent in putting forth these crazy ideas and theories. Honestly, I don’t know what I ever did to get them to upset.”
