I once had a window seat and the woman who was supposed to be in the middle seat was in my seat when I got to the row. I politely told her that it was my seat, showed her my ticket, etc. She asked if I would switch. I said no thanks, and she began BAWLING. Like, the loudest crying I’ve ever heard in my life from an adult. Begging, screeching, pleading with me to switch seats. I told her I already feel claustrophobic on planes and purposefully picked the window seat.

She got the flight attendants involved, who also asked me to switch (???) Again, I said no. They made it seem like this was somehow a problem the two of us had to figure out because we had to take off soon. The woman is still in my seat, begging and screaming at me, and eventually I started to feel bad, like what if she had anxiety about flying or something and couldn’t do a middle seat?

After like 10 minutes of truly the most ridiculous situation in my life, her husband, who hadn’t made a peep this entire time or even made it known that they were traveling together, gets up from his window seat in the row ahead of us and offered to switch with her. One the weirdest plane experience I’ve ever had.

The opposite happened to me on a coach trip, for some reason (still not sure why lol) I got the middle seat between to strangers ( they were friends though) so they started to talk to each other over my head. I asked one of the women if they wanted to switch seats with me so she could sit next to her friend, she said ‘no thanks, we’ll just talk over your head’ which they did for the whole weekend. It wasn’t fun for me lol.

Once I was asked to change seats.

I was really late for my flight. Extenuating circumstances on a bus... Anyway, I got to the airport after the flight was due to have taken off. Luckily it had been delayed, and was still in the process of being boarded. I ran through the airport to get to the gate, and was happy just to have a seat at all.

I was a ball of sweat stress from the bus situation, plus all the running.

In any case, a minute after I sat down (aisle seat), a guy comes up to me and nicely asks to switch seats, because I was seated next to his wife. I'd have been totally inclined to switch seats with him as long as it wasn't a middle seat...

However, as luck had it, the airline (SwissAir) had bumped him into Business Class, in the hopes that it would entice somebody to switch seats with him. HELL YES! Pretty much the instant I sat down in the better seat, a flight attendant rushed over to me with a bottle of water. It was just what I needed. The flight was only an hour long (first of 3 flights), but it was the highlight of my day.
