Our adventure started when myself and 2 other clearly intoxicated friends caught a Yellow Cab taxi outside a Yaletown Restaurant. Both Vancouver Taxi & Black Top refused service and kept driving until I stood in front of a Yellow Cab dropping off a fare. Hearing the stories of how the taxi system is so broken in Vancouver I started a GPS tracking app on my smartphone. When he turned towards the Cambie Bridge that’s when it got interesting.

He asked where we were from, I lied and told the driver we were visiting from Wisconsin and it was our first time in Vancouver. Then his phone rang and had a long 10 minute conversation in Punjabi, while he drove us over the Cambie St Bridge, then over to the Granville St Bridge, then around over to the Burrard Bridge TWICE back into Downtown. When he got off the phone he asked how we were going to pay. I lied and told him we only had AMEX, he was furious then said the machine was broken, the network was down. He said he would take us to an ATM machine. A 7-11 half way across town on W Pender & Bute. I got out and got a slurpee, when I got back in the cab I flashed a $100 at him and we were on our way to the Sutton Place Hotel. At the hotel the fare on the machine was $65 dollars. I gave him a $10 for the fare, he threatened to call the police. I showed him the GPS tracking app and scam he tired to pull. He drove off.

EDIT: I TOOK A TAXI BECAUSE I HAD A SPRAINED ANKLE.

Google maps now has a function that will tell you if a taxi ride is taking you for a "ride".

This is probably the beat feature of ride share. Ive probably been taken for a ride in every country except Japan. If im going to a new city or country, i always make sure to turn on my google maps and that the driver can see that i have it on.
