I bumped a car in a Kohl's parking lot as I was pulling in to a spot. It was just a light scrape and some paint transfer on the metal bumper of an old Blazer.
I parked and went inside to ask if they could page the owner. It took about 5 minutes before the lady got to the desk. We walked out to go look at the damage. We were both cordial about the whole thing. Accidents happen you know.
When we walk outside there are two police cars and a bicycle cop mulling about. Someone had reported me leaving the scene and thought I was trying to hit and run.
But leaving my car.
In a parking lot.
To go shopping.
The cops were cool and asked if the lady wanted a police report.
She just laughed and said that there wasn't anything to report, and if I hadn't told her, she never would have noticed anything wrong anyway.
There are still some nice people in the world. You just have to treat them nice first.
Didn't notice which subreddit this was on before reading, was so happily surprised. Thank you for sharing, and for doing the right thing by leaving a note.
