Some of the Easter Island Moai have long buried bodies, but on most of the Moai the bodies are quite visible although relatively short.
There are 3 basic types of Moai:
Ahu Moai - Moai placed on podiums near the coast
Road Moai - Moai found along the road from the coast quarry where the Moai were made.
Quarry Moai - Moai on the hillside below the quarry.
The Moai on the original picture, belongs to the last group. Quarry Moai didn't have to be moved very far, they were essentially just slid down hill, so they are quite tall with long bodies. They were buried by all the debris from the carving of all the other Moai which happened just uphill from them.
