They sell kimonos at the Narita airport. You think those are only for the Japanese in case they forgot to pack one?

Somewhat related story. I’m an American, currently visiting Morocco. My brother and I have been wearing djalaba (traditional Moroccan clothing) when we go out. Over the course of the last three days we have gotten probably 100+ compliments from the Moroccans on them. About every fourth person we walked past would say (in Arabic) “Nice djalaba!”

At dinner tonight, the restaurant owner came out to talk to us because he was so happy to see foreigners wearing the traditional clothing.

Yesterday, an old man on the street stopped and talked to us for over an hour. He said “it warms my heart to see you wearing the clothing of my people.” He invited us to his house to have tea with him and his family.

Take what you will from it, but it has been an amazing experience.
