I made muffins this morning for a work breakfast and my loving mother couldn't pass up an opportunity to remind me how awful I am.

They were made for work, tell them to suit up and head to the office for a muffin

I would’ve wanted one too, but the sane response is something like, “Oh, those are for work? Maybe next time then.” It’s fine that she’s upset but totally not normal to throw a fit over one muffin and declare her child disrespectful when she never asked for one in the first place. It would’ve been nice if OP left some, but it’s childish to throw a fit over not receiving what would’ve been a gift like OP was required to give her one.

Edit: You’re all quite right we don’t know the context of the situation, and OP’s Bible comment did come much later, which I didn’t notice at first. Yeah, both parties were bitchy and this could’ve been handled better by everyone involved. Assuming OP brought her own ingredients though, OP shouldn’t have to share things she makes for work whether or not mom knew they were for work. This is more entitled and childish than insane (TIL there’s a sub for those), but OP’s mom honestly just seems like she’s using the muffin as an excuse to be upset about unrelated things. Like I said, we don’t know the whole context or what things are like for OP, but speaking as an individual who grew up in an abusive household, words like “whatever,” and “wow” still trigger a defensive response in me because they were usually a code word for dad’s “angry because you’ve failed to understand what I want even though I have not communicated anything” phases. I imagine many people taking OP’s side have similar experiences, although it’s just a guess. I hope all goes well for OP and her mom in the end, and for all you lovely people here on Reddit. Thanks for my most upvoted comment so far.
