Doug Liman recently had reshoots on his Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley film Chaos Walking but gave ComicBookMovie an update on his Edge of Tomorrow sequel and when he hopes to shoot it.

Liman revealing that the script is finished and is waiting for star Tom Cruise to complete Mission: Impossible 7/Mission: Impossible 8 production before that happens.

COMIC BOOK MOVIE: Is there anything you can tell me about Edge of Tomorrow 2, which I believe is titled Live, Die, Repeat and Repeat. Is that something you’re cooking up with Tom Cruise after he finishes filming the next two Mission: Impossible movies?

LIMAN: “I’m hoping. If we’re going to do it, that would be the time.”

COMIC BOOK MOVIE: And the script is done and everything?

LIMAN: “Yeah, the script is ready.”

The next two Mission: Impossible films will be a two-pater will be written/directed by Christopher McQuarrie with Rebecca Ferguson and Hayley Atwell co-starring with Cruise.

Filming is expected to begin next year in England.

Tom Cruise tends to shoot one project per year, so this would suggest that the Edge of Tomorrow sequel might not begin filming until 2021 if the two Mission: Impossible sequels will shoot back-to-back in 2020.

There is also an expectation that Emily Blunt would be returning as well.

I’m going to hope that Warner Bros. doesn’t use that ridiculous working title for the sequel and instead goes with Edge of Tomorrow 2.

When Earth falls under attack from invincible aliens, no military unit in the world is able to beat them. Maj. William Cage (Tom Cruise), an officer who has never seen combat, is assigned to a suicide mission. Killed within moments, Cage finds himself thrown into a time loop, in which he relives the same brutal fight — and his death — over and over again. However, Cage’s fighting skills improve with each encore, bringing him and a comrade (Emily Blunt) ever closer to defeating the aliens.

How the hell is his body going to survive two more Mission Impossible movies? Is this what it means to go beyond Super Thetan?

Two Mission Impossible sequels and then a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow?

The future looks bright, my friends.

While I'm disappointed it sounds so far off, I'm excited it's actually happening.

Absolutely loved the first.
