One time I went through a McDonald’s drive through after a long day at work. I was exhausted and probably a little grumpy.
When the person spoke through the intercom, they sounded so joyful- “welcome to McDonald’s!” And then they actually sang that dah-da-da-du-DAH jingle complete with “I’m lovin it!”
It changed my mood completely. When I drove up to the window the guy appeared to have the same condition as Elijah. He was so thrilled and I felt like such a goober for being cranky about my own job.
That was about 12 years ago and to this day my husband and I will occasionally sing the McDonald’s jingle the way he did and it cheers us up.
Home Depot both hires the intellectually disabled and (at least around here) pays them the same wage as neurotypical employees and gives them a solid amount of hours. It’s very good as there are some companies who refuse to pay them (only offering volunteer work) or only offer them like 2 hours a week
I’m a fuck corporations kind of guy but I have to give credit where it’s due I suppose
