Have you seen the price of beef lately? Now imagine how much of that weight is lost making jerky. Take a pound of beef and you might get what a few ounces of jerky? Then throw in production costs shipping, waste, etc, and you've got a high cost per pound.
Get a dehydrator for 30 bucks and make your own, it's super easy. Marinate strips of flank steak for about 3 hours in a mix of soy sauce, garlic powder, and black pepper, then place in the dehydrator for about 4 hours (make and model may vary the time). Best beef jerky you'll ever have.
