My polish grandpa before and after WWII. It is supposed to be 7 years between the pictures according to my mother. He survived concentration camp and had an ID-tattoo. Never wanted to talk about which one. Something about his eyes tell me more than any history book ever could. Wanted to share.

Such a strong man. If he had an ID tattoo on his arm, that means he was in Auschwitz. Turns out it was the only nazi camp that did the arm tattoos.

the first photo looks like he's happy but trying to be serious. the second looks serious but like hes trying to be happy. bless him.

I would’ve thought this was 20+ years apart. How awful for him.
