He should be worried about trends in battleground states since 2016. His net approval is considerably worse now than 2016 in the states he won by less than 5% - Florida, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Arizona, Wisconsin, and Michigan. That's around 90 EC votes alone, which is more than his EC margin in 2016. This means that loosing half of them will probably cost him the race.

Still, approval relative to his opponent is what matters. The Democrats could decide to nominate someone who turns out to be broadly disliked, as they did in 2016.

The Great Lakes states went for Trump last time, but it looks like they won't get fooled again.

I have a question, as a German:

HOW is it possible, that he still has such high approval ratings in "poorer" states like Mississippi, Alabama, Tennesse, Kentucky etc. ?

His Policies hurt those States and their people the most and impacted many of HIS OWN VOTERS: most of them in a negative way

I've once heard of the "solide red states" but it's still so crazy to me...

EDIT: Corrected spelling of weird american states with weird names.
