Trump said impeachment is a "bad thing to have on your resume" in a call with House Republicans, a source on the call told Axios.

Two other sources confirmed the substance of the remark to the news outlet, but one said they remembered Trump phrasing it as "you don't want it [impeachment] on your resume."

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

House Democrats formally launched an impeachment inquiry two weeks ago after details emerged of a phone call between Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky.

The president and his allies have sought to discredit the impeachment inquiry, calling the process a hoax.
