Does this attachment to specific memories have any specific name or explanation? Both for good and bad memories that are seemingly unshakable. My first thought is to the movie Inside Out; but I really hope that time I said something dumb in HS isn't the base of a whole island of my personality.
You don't remember every specific detail from 15 years ago. You remember the negative parts of the situation that you have made seem worse than it really was.
Used to lose my keys and wallet in the house all the time now the first thing I do is take them and put them in a bowl on the kitchen counter when I get home. Keys are never lost which free up my brain to think embarrassing events from the past it a win-lose situation.
