I'm nordic, and we seem to have pretty similar setup with Germany. Also public study grants for students and goverment guaranteed student loans are pretty nice perks, as you don't have to postpone your studies by doing low-paid jobs, but rather focus your time on studying and pay the student loan back from decent salary after gratuation.

E: Also, we have no private universities and very few private colleges (though I don't personally know anyone who would attend to private college, they kind of have a reputation of being fake schools for untalented people). You can study for free any doctor level studies, should you have the determination. I'm not sure if these are granted things in other countries, but though some might find it interesting.

In Czech Republic we have pretty much the same "free stuff" like in Germany, but are poor compared to Germany and US, so I guess it's not about the money
