This is Jax with his human. Jax is an akita, but due to a condition he was given a very special "mask."

I found this post about Jax under unfortunate circumstances. He had something called Uveodermatologic syndrome, which is a rare disease in which the dog's immune system forms antibodies against its own pigment cells in the skin and light-sensing cells in the back of the eye. It sounds like Jax lived a fabulous life up to the point his body gave up (which was Saturday or Sunday).

I write this today with tears pouring down my face and a broken heart!!!!! During the last week Jax refused to eat, could not stand without assistance, could barely walk, and he began to have organ failure. To avoid any suffering we had to make an incredibly hard choice. Surrounded by so many people who loved him, Jax has made his way to the Rainbow Bridge.

Many know that Jax had UVD (Uveodermatologic syndrome) and that is the reason for his beautiful mask, Through his beauty we hope that we have played a small part in educating other pet owners about this truly horrible disease, and to try to catch it early enough that it can be treated properly.

Thank you so much to everyone who supported Jax throughout this. Jax fought for as long as he could, but it was his body that failed him. Before he passed he gave us one last giant Jax smile as if to tell us that it will be ok.

Probably should have named him Rorschach, but hey Jax is fitting too.

Roarschax would be a great nickname.
