She's knowledgeable enough about the situation, she's a reasonable speaker and is extremely determined. She's adept at calling politicians on their bullshit.

But climate change politics isn't a personality cult. I've seen far more people fawning over how great Thunberg over the last year than actually discussing her message.

In the same way using a different lightbulb isn't akin to reversing climate change-inducing industry practice, praising a single child because they say things we like doesn't come close to forming a practical and effective movement.

Careful not the push your own responsibilities onto that defiant swedish kid please.

She's absolutely right about what she said. Unfortunately it won't make any difference. We as a species are reactive, not proactive. I fear it's going to take an unprecedented major worldwide type of climate catastrophe for humanity to act as one. You can pay all the bullshit carbon taxes you like, but until the big polluters come on board, you'll get nowhere.

I work in a convention centre. I've also worked in many hotels. One thing is consistent, that being the incredible amounts of waste generated be it food or product. And everyone goes along with it.

Showbags not filled with crap but just a glossy page or two, a stress ball and plastic pen wrapped in plastic. Completely pointless and wasteful yet every event rolling through has this bullshit. All the single use signage, from idiotic laminated signs that say 1 min remaining, to large plastic branded stand signs. It all goes in the bin at the end.

Individually wrapped mints and disposable cups. University graduations using plastic party poppers. Graduates for environmental studies using plastic party poppers while a rain of mylar confetti covers the ground for one minutes of clapping like a seal at your tremendous achievement. Three times a day! And everyone goes along with it.

Lunches which could be large trayed are put in plastic containers and ditched when the expected numbers don't eventuate. Fillet steak, chuck it. Salads, the bin. Sweets, leave those for the office staff. Office staff whose cubicles are adorned with all types of plastic identity signalers. Because it's cute.

I'd say individual responsibility has a large part to play as we all have the individual opportunity to say no, I don't need that. As long as we blindly accept the conditions presented to us we'll continue down this same path.

When you see the mess at the end of a large exhibition which occurs over 100 times a year it's really hard to see how we're getting out of this mess because with each event someone, or a collective had the opportunity to do it differently and each time the same pointless bullshit rolls out.

I'm not saying a multinational container ship delivering goods manufactured in a dubious manner doesn't have a huge impact on the environment but individuals decided they absolutely must have those 10000 screen printed widgets to give away for brand awareness. It's sickening and relentless.
