Judging by how these Crows are dressed I dare say they participated in the rodeo themselves!
The Crow Fair is an event held every year on the banks of Little Big Horn River in Crow Agency, Montana. The Crow tribe, also known as Apsaalokee ("children of the large-beaked bird"), held their first fair in 1904. The event is a way to remember the cultural practices of the past by ways of dancing in big powwows, competing in the rodeo, selling of crafts and jewellery (notice the moccasins of the Crow perched on the logs!).
Tipi tents spring up all over the fields - hence the nickname “Tipi Capital of the World” inviting not only Crow Nation but tribes from all over America where families living far and wide gets a chance to reunite with relatives and friends, and eat good family food. This year (2019) over 50,000 people participated.
The crow fair is always held in August, so as a time reference this places this photo only three months before the US joined World War II after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
